Langtang Wilderness Trek


    The Langtang valley also known as The Living Earth is aptly called the valley of glaciers where; mountains raise soaring toward the sky. The prominent areas of attraction are the bamboo forests with an abundance of wildlife, rhododendron forests and majestic waterfalls flowing over mammoth boulders, a chance to bathe in soothing hot springs, magnificent views of the snow covered white giant Langtang Lirung (7,200m), the holy lakes of Gosainkund etc. This trek offers a different perspective of life in the Himalayas and it enables you to explore the Langtang National Park, which is the home of the Tibetan looking people - the Tamangs. The journey begins by driving towards the North West of Kathmandu to a mountain village of Dhunche. Dhunche is a major village in Langtang area. The Langtang valley is deemed as a sacred place and no animals should be killed here. It is also designated as a national park. The forest is full of wildlife. Here you can find the rare red pandas lurk living in dense lichen-draped rhododendron thickets, herds of blue sheep grazing on the alpine meadows and lammergeyers gliding over glaciated valleys amidst scenery of lofty Himalayan peaks. The valley offers beautiful landscapes; temperate forest, alpine pastures, glaciers, swift mountain streams, rugged rock and snow-caped peaks, lakes, juniper, rhododendron, bamboo and others rare vegetation forest and pretty villages make it a relatively easy and popular trekking destination. Not only those snow-capped mountains like: Langtang Shishapangma, Murung, Moromoto, Yala Peak, Gongala and various glaciers of valley has added beauty in this region. The trails are challenging with long, steep climbs and descents, often though deep forests or across glacial moraines. The trek finishes by walking down the valley to Melamchi pul where to catch the bus back to Kathmandu.

    Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu

    Upon your arrival our representative will welcome you at Tribhuvan International Airport, after introductory meeting transfer you to hotel in Kathmandu. Rest of the day varies upon your arrival time; we can organize some activities if you arrived by midday or early afternoon but late afternoon and evening arrivals have a free day for individual activities. Overnight at Kathmandu hotel.
     
    Day 02: Half day sightseeing & final preparation

    After breakfast, encounter the day by sight viewing tours to different historical, spiritual and cultural attractions; including the Swoyambhunath, one of the most glorious Buddhist Chaityas probably the oldest temple of Nepal, famous for its nickname as Monkey Temple which has been registered in UNICECO heritage side. Then we will Pashupatinath, the most famous Hindu temple in the country, dedicating to Lord Shiva located on the banks of the holy Baghmati River. Here we see Hindu holy men (sadhus) meditating, pilgrims bathing and occasionally funeral pyres burning on the Ghats.
    From there our trip heads toward Boudhhanath, the largest Tibetan Buddhist stupa of the valley located about 6km. away to the east of Kathmandu City, known as Khasti Chitya. The rest of our time in Kathmandu is free for further sightseeing, exploration & final preparation for next morning to trekking. In the late afternoon your tour guide will confirm departure information for the next morning. Stay overnight at hotel

    Day 03: Drive Kathmandu to Syabru Besi via Dhunche

    From Kathmandu, drive to Syabru Besi (1450meters), the preliminary point of the trek which takes about eight/nine hours by land crusher through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Syabru Besi passing through Dhunche which give experience the adventure of deep land. You can catch a glimpse of terraces and green hills and Ganesh Himal while passing along the road at the bank of Trisuli River. From Syabru Bensi, the adventure begins! Passing through many small villages on the way will be pleasing you with scraps of everyday living in these lowland villages. Overnight at hotel.
     
    Day 04: Trek Syabru Besi to Lama Hotel

    First day of trekking starts after taking breakfast, crosses through Bhote Koshi and follows the Langtang Khola and gradually climbs to Bamboo (1960m) enjoy through the rhododendron and bamboo forests. The most attraction of this forest is variety of wildlife such as red pandas, wild boars, yellow-throated martens, languor monkeys(The honey hunter animal), and Himalayan black bears etc. Thereafter, our trek ascends gently toward Rimche (2400m) intervene through Bamboo (1960meters), lies at the bank of Langtang Khola with local houses. And at the end your trail is level to the Lama Hotel (2,470m) for the overnight stay, this will take about 5:30hours.
     
    Day 05: Lama Hotel to Ghora Tabela

    Lama Hotel to Ghora Tabela trek is starts with a gentle climb and it is a short trek day, this takes about 3 - 4 hours hiking. Initially the hike is climbing through a wild forest of oaks, maples, hemlocks and white and pink rhododerons high above the Langtang Khola and along the way you will be able to see the beautiful view of Langtang Lirung peak, Langtang Village and Langtang RI. Similarly we will crosses a stream then climbs steeply to pass marked with prayer flags, crossing next stream on a miniature bailey bridge to reach Ghora Tabela. Overnight at Lodge.
     
    Day 06: Ghora Tabela to Langtang

    After breakfast, we will ride toward another short day trek. The trail is gently ascent and you will notice the change in landscape from green forest to barren open valleys that are typical in higher altitudes and the valley opens out into the pastoral meadows of Langtang Village (3,480m) where you can find yak and the wild goats wondering around you. This is one of the old villages, where people live year round with cultivation like Potatoes, Buckwheat, Barley and vegetables similarly beautiful vegetation around Oaks, Hemlock, and bamboo's with birds also added the beauty, along this trekking route and the view from here is more spectacular as we get closer to mountain . We will spend rest of time walking around village and stay overnight at Guest house.
     
    Day 07: Trek Langtang to Kyanjin Gompa

    We will continues our trek through the yak pasture to the mysterious and remote Gompa at Kyanjin (3730m), a short walk normally takes 4 hours and rest of the day you can enjoy surroundings, a famous Cheese factory (run through Yak Milk), ancient monastery, meadows with grazing Yaks, Sheep and Mountain goats. Kyanjin, a beautiful valley is in the lap of the Langtang Lirung, a good place to explore local culture similar as Tibetan which has been imitating from centuries. This place is famous for to explore the valley as well as lots of small peaks to climb. Overnight stay at guesthouse.
     
    Day 08: Kyanjin Gompa exploration day.

    Today we will do rest and explore the surrounding area, after the breakfast travel around the moraine to see the spectacular ice faces and tumbling glaciers of Langtang Lirung or ascend Kyanjin RI (4350meters) and Tserko RI (5033m) for incredible view of the Langtang range which is ultimate point of this trek, directly behind the village, for a breath-taking panorama of the Langtang peaks, Kinshung, Yansa Tsenji. Explore around the glacier and Himalayan Yak pasture. Overnight at guesthouse.
     
    Day 09: Trek Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel

    After breakfast, descend down observing surrounding genetic snowy capped mountains breathtaking scenic view, fantastic views of towering mountain what you have missed on the way up. Still if you can visit glacier after 2 hours walk. From Kyanjin the trail retrace downhill to the Lama hotel through the some ancient Tamang settlement with fantastic views of towering mountain and some wildlife and pine and Junipers forests. After about 6 hours walks we will stay overnight at Lama Hotel (2470).
     
    Day 10 Lama Hotel - Thulo Syabru

    From Lama Hotel we will descent the way by cross the river and climb toward to Thulo Syabru (2,230m) passing through pine and Junieerps forests, this will take about 5hours. Similarly the fascinating view of Langtang Himal makes our trek more exciting and adds more beauty. Overnight in Thulo Syabru.
     
    Day 11 Thulo Syabru- Shin Gomba

    We will follows the broad trail climbing up to Dimsa village and the trial continues a steep ascent path passing through Dursagang (2660m) along with the breathtaking views of Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Tibetan Mountain and forest with rhododendron, oak, hemlock to Shin gomba (3,330m). This will take normally 4-5hours. Buddhist Monastery as well as the local well managed cheese factory adds the panoramic views on the trail. The cheese manufactured here is considered the best and famous in Nepal. Overnight stay at Shin gomba.
     
    Day 12 Shin gomba- Gosainkunda

    From Shin gomba we continue the trail ascends smoothly up to Lauribinayak through rhododendron forest to the top of the rim and through a forested area which is a sanctuary for the red panda and an endangered species that the Nepalese call cat bear. Our journey continues the rugged path and climbs wider routes with the excellent views of Ganesh Himal range, Manaslu range, Tibetan peaks to the west and Langtang Lirung to the north. During the clear day you can get opportunity to see the rising Annapurna range. Dozens of lakes around the Gosainkunda (4,460m).attracts the visitors, the main three being Saraswatikunda, Bhairabkunda and Gosainkunda are more popular and linked with legend. It takes about 5-6 hours walk. Explore around the Lakes and overnight in Gosainkund.
     
    Day 13 Gosainkunda - Gopte

    Trail toward Ghopte is little bit difficult; the trail is climb through rough and crosses glacier moraines similarly past four small lakes to the Laurebina La (4610m), the highest point of this trek. Take some panoramic views of Manaslu, Ganesh Himal as well as Langtang Lirung at our back far west. Our journey continues via step down to Phedi crossing throughout a rocky hill with pine and rhododendron trees to Gopte (3,440m). It takes about 7hours walk. Overnight at guesthouse.
     
    Day 14 Gopte-Malemchigaon

    Ghopte to Malemchi gaon trek normally takes 6-7 hours. Todays trails slidely descend down through a forest to the river bed and we will reach a Kharka which is surrounded by rhododendron forest and then we will ascend through the oak, rhododendron and juniper forests toward Thearepati. From there the trail goes in descending order to Melamchi Guan through the pine and rhododendron forest with excellent views down into the Helambu valley. After cross the village we will enter a forested area from where we descend toward Melamchi River followed to the Sherpa village, Malemchigaon (2,560m), Where you can observe Sherpa culture. Overnight stay at guest house.
     
    Day 15 Malemchigaon - Tarke Gyang 

    Today trail lead us to a cultural destination which is known as Helambu Region, then walk up to Tarke Gyang (2,590m) passing through the Sherpa old settlements and Buddhist monasteries where you can enjoy with Sherpa culture with traditional village and monasteries. The stone houses are close together with narrow alleyways separating them. This normally takes 6 hours walk. Stay overnight at guesthouse.
     
    Day 16 Tarke Gyang- Sermathang

    Todays trek toward Sermathang is comparatively easier through flat land with small beautiful forests and then the view of beautiful village of Helembu region. On the way we can see local farmers working in the fertile land. The trail makes a sweep around the wide valley end between Parachin and the pretty Sherpa village of Gangyul. The people of this village practice Drukpa Kagyu Buddhism, the same as the national religion of Bhutan. After passing a couple of streams and waterfalls, you'll end up in the village of Sermathang (2,610m). It takes about 4-5 hours walk. Overnight in Sermathang
     
    Day 17 Sermathang-Malemchi Puul Bazaar -Katmandu
    We will gradually descend down all the way to Melamchi pull bazaar (880m) through meadows and cultivated fields; in the distance you'll see the majestic views of rivers as well as Himalayans. Along the short way, we come across several old villages with their own particular traditions. After lunch we will catch a vehicle to Kathmandu, about 2-3 hours drive. Overnight stay at Kathmandu hotel.
     
    Day 18 Rest day & shopping
    This day is leisure day for you to rest after many days trekking. You can either relax whole day or you can explore around the city. You can roam around the shopping malls or you can buy handicrafts, Thankas and other various arts and sculptures in the markets. Rest of the time you can spend the evening leisurely, perhaps catch up on some last minute shopping and celebrate dinner together with Nepali Travel staffs. Overnight at Kathmandu hotel.
     
    Day 19 Depart Kathmandu: farewell friends

    According to your flight schedule, it is varies on your departure time rest of day is at leisure for independent activities of your interest until we pick you up at the hotel or we could plan some activities upon your choice if it is late hour flight and then transfer to airport for your further destination.

Todays trails slidely descend down through a forest to the river bed and we will reach a Kharka which is surrounded by rhododendron forest and then we will ascend through the oak, rhododendron and juniper forests toward Thearepati. From there the trail goes in descending order to Melamchi Guan through the pine and rhododendron forest with excellent views down into the Helambu valley. After cross the village we will enter a forested area from where we descend toward Melamchi River followed to the Sherpa village, Malemchigaon (2,560m), Where you can observe Sherpa culture. Overnight stay at guest house.
     
    Day 15 Malemchigaon - Tarke Gyang 

    Today trail lead us to a cultural destination which is known as Helambu Region, then walk up to Tarke Gyang (2,590m) passing through the Sherpa old settlements and Buddhist monasteries where you can enjoy with Sherpa culture with traditional village and monasteries. The stone houses are close together with narrow alleyways separating them. This normally takes 6 hours walk. Stay overnight at guesthouse.
     
    Day 16 Tarke Gyang- Sermathang

    Todays trek toward Sermathang is comparatively easier through flat land with small beautiful forests and then the view of beautiful village of Helembu region. On the way we can see local farmers working in the fertile land. The trail makes a sweep around the wide valley end between Parachin and the pretty Sherpa village of Gangyul. The people of this village practice Drukpa Kagyu Buddhism, the same as the national religion of Bhutan. After passing a couple of streams and waterfalls, you'll end up in the village of Sermathang (2,610m). It takes about 4-5 hours walk. Overnight in Sermathang
     
    Day 17 Sermathang-Malemchi Puul Bazaar -Katmandu
    We will gradually descend down all the way to Melamchi pull bazaar (880m) through meadows and cultivated fields; in the distance you'll see the majestic views of rivers as well as Himalayans. Along the short way, we come across several old villages with their own particular traditions. After lunch we will catch a vehicle to Kathmandu, about 2-3 hours drive. Overnight stay at Kathmandu hotel.
     
    Day 18 Rest day & shopping
    This day is leisure day for you to rest after many days trekking. You can either relax whole day or you can explore around the city. You can roam around the shopping malls or you can buy handicrafts, Thankas and other various arts and sculptures in the markets. Rest of the time you can spend the evening leisurely, perhaps catch up on some last minute shopping and celebrate dinner together with Nepali Travel staffs. Overnight at Kathmandu hotel.
     
    Day 19 Depart Kathmandu: farewell friends

    According to your flight schedule, it is varies on your departure time rest of day is at leisure for independent activities of your interest until we pick you up at the hotel or we could plan some activities upon your choice if it is late hour flight and then transfer to airport for your further destination.
